Glen Afton Blvd – Kannapolis
The City of Kannapolis received a $453,300 Golden LEAF Foundation grant to fund construction of a road connection from the end of Glen Afton Boulevard to Goodman Road in Cabarrus County, NC. This roadway connection is to provide additional access to the new 300,000 square foot distribution facility for Gordon Food Service on Glen Afton Blvd. The City of Kannapolis partnered with The N.C. Department of Transportation to provide additional road improvements necessary for the project. The City of Kannapolis selected AWCK to provide survey, design, right of way acquisition mapping, bidding, and construction administration and inspection (CEI) for the project. The project includes grading, paving, curb and gutter, sidewalk, storm drainage, and structural overlay to strengthen the existing roadway. The road connection will provide transportation mobility improvements by creating a north-south connection from Kannapolis Parkway to Poplar Tent Road and will provide opportunity for economic growth and development along Glen Afton Blvd.
