Construction Inspector – Kannapolis, N.C.

Alley, Williams, Carmen & King is seeking a construction inspector to provide inspection on transportation projects in the Piedmont of North Carolina.

Responsibilities will include preparation of inspection reports, making field measurements, calculation of quantities, computations, material acceptance testing and sampling, and project documentation in accordance with NCDOT policies and procedures.

Qualifications will include basic computer skills including using a tablet, laptop, and desktop computer using Microsoft Windows and email. Must be able to read and interpret project plans and contract specifications. Must be able to apply mathematics including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry to construction field measurements and calculations. Must have the ability to communicate with supervisors and the public. Inspection of structures, surveying, and/or utility inspection experience a plus.

Certifications required (or ability to obtain) will be NCDOT Level II Erosion & Sediment Control, NCDOT ABC Sampling, NCDOT Borrow Pit Sampling, NCDOT Conventional Density, NCDOT QMS Roadway, and NCDOT Concrete.

Education and Experience required is graduation from a two-year technical college with a degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Survey Technology and two years of progressive construction engineering and inspection (CEI) experience, or graduation from high school or GED and four years of CEI experience, or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.

Work will mostly be performed outside subject to seasonal/climate conditions, traversing cross country terrain, existing highways with varied traffic conditions, and on construction sites. Valid NC driver’s license is required and safety toe shoes are also required. Criminal background check will be performed.
